Lingayen, Pangasinan and What to Buy for Pasalubong!

Last March, my friends and I visited Pangasinan! I've never stayed in Pangasinan, nor have I been to a public beach (yeah free entrance!), so despite this being another beach post, this is pretty fun stuff with history and eating new food.

It took around 3 hours to get to Pangasinan from Manila, but the sore butt and feet while inside the car was worth it! No hotel review since we stayed over at my friend's house (thank you!)

Hello clothe-less child! You can ride this boat around the beach for a fee
LINGAYEN PUBLIC BEACH
My friend recommended we go to Lingayen since there are museums and artifacts which are nearby the beach. This is between Dagupan and the more famous Bolinao beach. At that time I was still playing the new Tomb Raider so I was very fascinated with historic objects.

The beach has interesting people near the shore. These guys are selling food.

Hello!

The sand is a mixture of beige and black, very powdery. The waves are very weak so it's a nice place to cool off without feeling like you're to drown in seawater. You can walk very far and still have the water in your waist area. To kick things up a notch, my friends and I kneeled down. I think that the lifeguard has a very dull job. I was sad that I saw no fish :(

fine sand yo!

I didn't take a photo of the public bathhouse. Given that there is no fee to use it, I wasn't surprised that the bathhouse was poorly maintained.

LINGAYEN GULF

General Douglas McArthur landed on the Lingayen Gulf on January 9, 1945*. There are a lot of artifacts on display! There's even a museum, but we didn't get to enter because we were pressed for time.

This reminds me of my cousin who wanted to be an airplane (not a pilot)
It's probably best to go there late in the afternoon so you don't look squinty-eyed in the photos like we did. Sunbaked skin is not fun.

I wish they didn't paint the tank as part of restoration
There are glass displays near the tanks. Helmets, medicine vials and other things are very nice to look at aside from the huge tarpaulins explaining the history of Lingayen.
I Shall Return pins and match sticks for Mc. Arthur among other things on display!

This is a good place to visit if you like history and conserving money! Pangasinan is also well-known for its bagoong and tupig, sweet sticky rice with buco strips, wrapped in a leaf. My friend says the really good ones are cooked on top of hot rocks instead of direct fire. I wasn't able to take note how much it costs since they were given to us for free (thank you!).

Where have you visited so far this summer?
