Cafe Mary Grace - Makati

lanterns with fairy lights at restaurant cafe mary grace makati

There are numerous cafe and coffee shops in Makati, but I have yet to see anything more embellished than Cafe Mary Grace. By beautiful, if this cafe were a woman, it would be Angelina Jolie! It's like dining inside a fairy tale!

Makati being the central business district of the Philippines means that people are always busy and in a hurry, and the heavy traffic especially during the rush hour is extremely frustrating. I question why it's even called rush hour since cars are at a snail pace. A quiet and relaxing cafe outside Greenbelt 2 is just what this city needs!

THE PLACE
Walking outside, my eyes were immediately drawn to the pretty lights outside the cafe. I'm happy there's a store that has christmas lights even if it's not the holiday season. Gazing from outside the window, I can tell that the interiors are even more alluring.

The interior designers understood how important it is to create the perfect atmosphere for diners to eat comfortably. An assortment of whimsical pieces are super pleasant to look at while waiting for the food to arrive.

The highlight of the inside are the collection of lanterns and jars with pretty fairy lights and dried plants, along with the tin birds that has flapping wings. These are things that I'd love to have in my future house. Ah so gorgeous!

The country chic vibe is very inviting and homey. A lot of the tables have testimonials from happy customers throughout the years. You could read them while waiting for your order, but really, it's easier to get distracted from the details of the whole cafe.

At the corner of the second floor is a mini playpen for children who have really short attention spans for food waiting. I am a full-grown adult and still wouldn't mind staying there since I'm a sucker for gorgeous lights.

THE FOOD
As expected, everything is slightly pricier than other restaurants, but I'd like to think that you are paying for the ambiance aside from the food.

Since it was about 35 degrees outside at that time, (the kind where the sun pricks your skin and you wonder if cooking eggs on the sidewalk is feasible), drinking something hot wasn't a great idea. Instead I ordered a chilled Sansrival (P95). It was crunchy, buttery, and mildly sweet. I am very pleased about the generous amount of cashew nuts on top my cake.

My boyfriend ordered their famous ensaymada. The owner trained in the US for months and came back to the Philippines to perfect the craft of ensaymada making. This is the result of hard work, though I don't know if it tastes good since I don't enjoy eating sweet cheesy bread. Looking at him eat, I can tell that the bread is soft. He says it tastes nice.

Their house water is just as fancy as their decorations. It has oranges and pipino and is very cold. The glasses they serve has pretty white crochet coasters on the bottom. I appreciate them for adding tiny elements of detail for customers, even if it's just for a glass of water.

Cafe Mary Grace is one of the most photogenic places I've eaten in. We will definitely come back soon if we have extra money to spare.

  1. Ooh, nice! The place is lovely! I was able to try the food from Cafe Mary Grace in RP Ermita, and I loved it! But the place is just simple unlike this one.
